Autunno

The scene chosen to represent the autumn season is focused on the grape harvest. The sky and a small portion of the hill are covered in mist but nature is still lush and ready to give its products back. Among the yellow grass, the green bushes and the trees, one can see three women in the distance, carrying baskets full of freshly-picked grapes on their heads. The protagonists, however, are in the foreground. They are a young couple, walking side by side and smiling at each other. The young man, boldly courting the woman, is looking at her and caressing her chin. She is reciprocating his attentions with modesty, smiling but not matching his eyes and keeping on walking. She is also carrying a heavy basket full of grapes while lifting her apron up to carry some more fruit. Despite the hard labour, she looks happy, dreamy and comforted by the presence of her young lover by her side. (Alessandra Durante)
