Burrasca

The stormy sea is predominant. The wet sand is painted in the foreground with great expertise and an excellent play of shades and reflections. The sea is depicted in different nuances going from the white of the sea foam, the blue-green reflecting the colour of the grey and gloomy sky and the light brown of the sand. In the haze and from afar, three fishing boats at full mast can be seen. In the foreground and on the left, a woman is painted from behind and her face is only partially visible. She is waiting on the water’s edge, looking at the waves crashing against the river and dissolving into the sand. Her nervous wait, which matches the stormy waves of the sea, may be due to the return of a loved one aboard one of the fishing boats. (Alessandra Durante)
