Remo Giatti renders the moment of truce in the war. The Achaeans bring Ajax to divine Agamemnon who, rejoicing at the victory, sacrifices a five-year-old ox. They skin it, cut it into pieces, put its meat on skewers and roast it. Then, they prepare and eat the meal. Old Nestor proposes to carry the dead bodies with the help of oxen and mules and to burn them in front of the ships so that everyone can get their beloved’s ashes back.
The artist engraves such truce with the fires and the hanging meat as if to symbolize the suffering and the countless victims from the battle. The colour red is predominant and he even inserts brief captions to describe the images. (Alessandra Durante)
