The engraving discloses both terse and distinct formal monochromes in a cornucopia and admirable successions of shadow and light. The result is a spatial composition characterized by persisting brightness.

Coming from Ortona, an ancient landing place of the Frentani, Di Lizio found in the Academy of Fine Arts in L’Aquila the laboratory where he could unfold his creativity in engraving.

Il dono can be defined as the fruit of the teaching acquired in the Abruzzo school and, at the same time, indicates the skill in translating a specific poetic through a traditional operational concreteness.

On a technical level, the work follows the rule of the mezzotint.

No limiting accidentality interrupts the perspective flight towards infinity where the sky is illuminated without leaving the source visible. The depth of the work, the “intuition of the good” as Georg Edward Moore would say, the “impression dependent on the idea” in the manner of David Hume, are prevailing features in a work that also has the metaphysical breath of Carlo Mattioli’s landscapes.
