On the right, a man is standing out on a spur of rock. He is alone in an ethereal space and in his appearance the man expresses both integrity and fragility. In truth, the artist identifies himself with the man of the rock, as a new Moses who causes spring water to gush forth.
“Libertà va cercando” (“He seeketh Liberty) is the expression taken from l. 71 of Canto I of Dante’s Purgatory which inspired Francesco Vignola. The work develops a varied formal whole expressed with a gestural design, proper to an informal language. A detailed drawing, embellished by an engraving of insistent and continuous graphic rhythm. The broad figurative scenario is, in any case, unified by the correct bite on the copper plate. (Filomena Tavares)
